After 40, Avoid These Common Habits That
Prevent Nerve Healing and Increase Discomfort
Hi there, I’m Rosy Williams, and I’m here to share my personal story —a journey through nerve pain, discomfort, and the battle to recover after turning 40. I never imagined that what seemed like small, everyday habits were actually blocking my nerve healing and increasing my discomfort.
Over time, with trial and error, medical support, and my own body
as proof, I discovered what really works
—and what
doesn’t.
So, if you’re over 40 and
feeling nerve tingles, chronic pain, or strange numbness, stay with me. Let’s
uncover these common but harmful habits
and learn
how to reverse them naturally. I promise this is not medical fluff—it’s
what I lived through, and it may just change your life.
Overusing Painkillers
I was addicted—literally—to popping ibuprofen daily. What I didn’t
realise is that NSAIDs (painkillers) can worsen nerve issues when used long-term by affecting gut
health and nerve signalling.
My neurologist once said:
“Rosy, painkillers numb the nerves, they don’t fix them.”
Now, I use natural pain
relief methods like turmeric, massage, and magnesium oil.
Sitting Too Long Without Moving
I used to sit for hours—working, binge-watching TV, scrolling
through my phone. What I didn’t realise is that long hours of sitting reduce blood flow to the
nerves, causing nerve compression and
slowing down healing.
Even my doctor said:
“Rosy, nerves need movement to heal.”
So now, I make it a point to stand up every 30 minutes
and stretch gently.
Ignoring Vitamin B12 Deficiency
This one was a shocker. My blood test revealed low vitamin B12, which is crucial for nerve repair.
I used to think fatigue and tingling in my legs were just “old
age.” But B12 deficiency was the real villain.
Now I take methylcobalamin
supplements and eat foods rich in B12 like eggs, dairy, and salmon.
Wearing Poorly Fitted Shoes
Oh, the heels I used to wear! I learned the hard way that tight shoes or lack of arch support can pinch
the nerves—especially the sciatic nerve.
After switching to orthopaedic
shoes and foot massage therapy, I felt
instant improvement.

Skipping Quality Sleep
Poor sleep
was the silent killer of my nerves. I’d sleep 4–5 hours and
think I was “coping.” But nerves heal during
deep sleep, especially between 10pm to 2am.
Now, I treat my sleep like gold: blackout curtains, lavender oil,
and no screens an hour before bedtime.
Consuming Too Much Sugar
I had a sweet tooth—still do. But excess sugar leads to inflammation, which is a top cause of nerve damage. Even borderline high blood sugar can lead to neuropathy after 40.
Now, I choose natural sugars like
fruits and avoid refined sweets.
Ignoring Mental Stress
I underestimated how much stress can worsen nerve pain. Cortisol (stress hormone) increases inflammation, and that
blocks nerve signal transmission.
Now, I practise guided
meditation, journaling, and walking in nature daily.
Avoiding Movement Out of Fear
I was afraid to move because of the pain. But this created a
loop: no movement = more stiffness = more pain.
Physical therapy taught me that gentle motion promotes nerve
regeneration. Even daily walking helps
blood flow and nerve oxygenation.
Not Drinking Enough Water
I didn’t know that dehydration can lead
to nerve compression and muscle cramping. Our nerves
are cushioned by fluids—and without enough water, they get irritated.
Now I drink 3 litres of
water daily and add electrolytes when
needed.
Ignoring Natural Anti-Inflammatories
Herbs saved me. I started using turmeric, ginger, omega-3s, and magnesium. These natural anti-inflammatory agents reduced my nerve pain
far better than medications.
I even make my own turmeric tea with coconut milk—my pain reliever
in a mug!
My Final Advice
If you're reading this, maybe you’ve been feeling misunderstood,
tired of pills, or just fed up with the constant pain that seems to have no
end. But here’s the truth I learned—your body wants
to heal. It just needs the right environment.
I’m Rosy Williams, and I went
from crying at night from nerve pain to dancing lightly through my garden
today—with no medication. Just wisdom, lifestyle changes, and faith.
You can do this too.
You’re not alone. You’re not weak. And this pain doesn’t define
your life.
Let this blog be your
gentle nudge towards comfort, control, and calmness.
Feel free to comment or message me—I’d love to hear your story, and maybe together, we can help more people break free from
nerve pain.
With healing hugs,
Rosy Williams
